Eco Friendly Paints

Eco Friendly Paints

We have seen a huge rise in Environmentally Friendly products; so huge that it now accounts for 45% of materials we’ve supplied in the last year and we expect it to keep rising!

About Eco friendly paints

Eco and Organic paints, oils, waxes and varnishes tend to contain only natural raw materials and best describe products which are solvent free and don’t cause irritation and serious health problems. Naturally they’re kinder to the planet too.

The exception for some may be a tiny amount of a synthetic, lead free drier, as no natural alternative exists. This drier constitutes less than 0.3% of the total volume of the product and is only used where necessary in some wood finishes.

This product group tend to be free of Volatile organic compound (VOC); a solvent found particularly in paints and protective coatings. Solvents are required to spread a protective or decorative film. Approximately 12 billion litres of paints are produced annually.

VOC refers to organic chemical compounds which have significant vapour pressures which can affect the environment and human health. VOCs are numerous, varied, and ever-present. Although VOCs include both man-made and naturally occurring chemical compounds, it is the anthropogenic VOCs that are regulated, especially for indoors where concentrations can be highest. VOCs are typically not acutely toxic but have chronic effects.

Using natural elements it is possible that pigmentation and colours are stronger, vivid and richer than industrially synthetic produced products.

The majority of products are identified by the EU Ecolabel. For more information on the Ecolabel click here.
